The next meeting of the AIVF Jefferson County Salon will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 12 at the Irondale Public Library. Click on the above link for directions and a map to the library. We will be continuing discussing any of the productions previously mention in earlier meetings and of course your film project. The meeting is free to the public.
 
Highlights of the July 8, AIVF Jefferson Salon meeting
 
Pending notification by the producers, a feature film may be starting production.
 
The series of documentaries and instruction videos mentioned earlier moved a step closer to a start date.
 
A television series was discussed.
 
A music video was discussed.
 
Technical documentation of some animation software was reviewed.
 
A special writing session for the middle school students was held on Wednesday June 16. Using storyboards was discussed followed by pizza for everyone. Another session for the students may take place on July 14.
 
We then viewed  "Shrimpy Test" from Zombie-Pirates, a trailer of"Giacomo's Secret" and a trailer and clips from "La Prophetie Des Grenouilles".
 
A review of the storyboard material included watching a work print of "Beauty and the Beast", a newsreel of the Fleischer Studios, circa 1939, storyboards from "The Long Kiss Goodnight", storyboards and an excerpt from "Troops", a deleted scene and pencil test from "The Iron Giant", pencil test from "My Little World",

The next meeting of the Script Development Workshop will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19 at Books & Company in Brookwood Village. The meeting generally last about two hours. Bring your script and discuss it with like minded peers.

AIVF Membership Director Priscilla Grim will be hosting a fundraising screening for the feature film "EVERYTHING UNSPOKEN". The event will take place at Galapagos Arts Space in Brooklyn, NY, July 26th, 7pm.  Co-Produced by Grim and Directed by Anthony Ferraro, "EVERYTHING UNSPOKEN" follows a couple as they struggle to face up to their own, and each other's, limitations and aspirations. The fundraiser will feature a raffle for all who donate $15 or more. Through a generous fiscal sponsorship with Media Collective, all donations are tax deductible. INPUT 2005
In partnership with the Independent Television Service (ITVS), AIVF is pleased to announce that INPUT, a screening conference devoted to international public media, will be coming to the U.S. for the first time in
six years and the first time ever to San Francisco!
INPUT is the only major annual event that unites some 2,000 international independent producers, media arts professionals, public television executives and others for a week of screenings, panels, networking opportunities and special events.
Mark your calendars for May 1-6, 2005. We hope youıll join us and that youıll submit your work to be considered for screening at the conference!

Independent Television Service (ITVS) Open Call

ITVS is looking for single public television programs on any subject, viewpoint or style. ITVS funds programs that bring new audiences to public television and expand civic participation by bringing diverse voices into
the public sphere.
 
ITVS funds and presents programs specifically designed for public television. They look to work with passionate, talented producers who tell stories - both true and fictional - that use television as the best possible medium to reach audiences often overlooked by conventional programming. Carole Fielding Student Grants
Deadline : Jan. 1, 2005
 
The University Film and Video Association sponsors the annual Carole Fielding Student Grants competition.  Awards of up to $4,000 are made for student productions in five categories: narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, and new-media. Up to $1,000 is awarded for research projects in historical, critical or theoretical studies of film and television. Applicants must be a student (undergraduate or graduate) at the time the application is made. A faculty member, who is an active member of the UFVA or a UFVA member institution, must sponsor the project. Pacific Islanders In Communication (PIC) Open Call & Media Fund

PIC is a national nonprofit media organization established primarily for the purpose of increasing national public broadcast programming by and about indigenous Pacific Islanders. PIC provides funding support for productions, training and education, broadcast services, and community outreach. The Media Fund sparks the development of Pacific Islander programming for national public television.
 
It is comprised of the following programs: Open Call, an annual call that invites proposals for television projects in all stages of production; Completion Fund, that is designed to quickly respond to urgent post-production needs; Short Term Initiative, that encourages and builds narrative storytelling; Travel Awards, to support producers; Professional Development; Acquisitions; and Executive Productions. IFP Los Angeles Producers Lab
Deadline: August 20
 
An intensive seven-week program held each autumn designed to help filmmakers develop skills as creative independent producers. During the lab, participants develop a strategy and formal action plan for bringing their projects to fruition, including a budget, schedule, and business plan.
 
Lab participants also meet with professional advisors and receive a complimentary pass to IFP/Los Angeles' Producer Series, which runs concurrently. Past Producers Lab instructors include Effie Brown (IN THE CUT), Eric d'Arbeloff (LOVELY & AMAZING), Matthew Greenfield (THE GOOD GIRL, CHUCK AND BUCK) and Jasmine Kosovic (THE ADVENTURES OF SEBASTIAN COLE). Roy W. Dean Film and Video Grants for Writing and Editing
Deadline: July 30 (Writing); August 30 (Editing)
 
The Roy W. Dean Writing Grant will send a writer to New Zealand to write their screenplay, film, or whatever they prefer in a quiet villa style country Wye Cottage surrounded by beauty and thousands of sheep. They will
be connected to the world with their new computer, fax, and phone and have a nice RUV to run around the south island.
 
The Roy W. Dean Film Editing Grant is gives support for an off-line edit. A New Zealand filmmaker has donated his editing suite and his expertise to help a filmmaker create their first draft. The grant recipient will stay in a Wye Cottage created for filmmakers and enjoy New Zealand as they create their film.
