Highlights of the May 12, AIVF
Jefferson County Salon meeting
Three films were viewed,
the trailer for "Alice's Misadventures in
Wonderland" from Mad Hatter Productions,
"The Shining in 30 seconds and re-enacted by
bunnies" by Jennifer Shiman,
"The Mayor who did his best" by Eric
Klopack
Storyboards of a current project were viewed. Some
discussion of e-mail technical issues which delayed mailing the
ezine.
Some discussion about getting into the
film business, how some people got started.
Some discussion about making a commercial. Some discussion
about making a sit-com. Some discussion about the public access on Birmingham
Cable (now Brighthouse).
Some discussion about the film incentive legislation
bills, one was for the establishment of an economic zone for movie
production.
There was some discussion about the Birmingham Film
Commission or rather it's demise. It's just as well, a published article
has one of the potential film commission member and the newspaper
publisher making personal attacks against a private citizen who was
also being selected to serve on the film commission. Click
here to read the article
This unprovoked attack of viciousness made by these
individuals is not seen as a good way to show unity and cooperation of
the commission members and to attract business to come here. The
regional film office plan http://reelscene.com/bjrfo/bjrfoindex.html
discussed at an earlier Salon meeting would be a better choice
and avoid this type of problem.
The next meeting of the Script Development Workshop will be 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 17 at Books & Company in Brookwood Village. The meeting
generally last about two hours. Bring your script and discuss it with like
minded peers.
At the May meeting several of the middle school students returned with
their scripts. So productive was the meeting that the next day one of the
students left his band class (with the teacher's permission) to return to
the enrichment class in order to continue working on his
script.
