GEORGIA LAWYERS FOR THE ARTS
Calling all Independent Filmmakers! It's time for your annual legal 'fix' with the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts! A GLA attorney will be on hand, this time to discuss important issues in art and entertainment law - contracts, copyright, taxes, 1st Amendment, etc. Whether you're shooting a short film on a shoestring budget, or selling your belongings for that first-time feature, you'll cut costs in the long run by knowing the legal ins-and-outs
in advance.

FCC Public Hearings on Broadcast Localism continue, next up: March 17, Monterey, CA

The third of six public hearings on the subject of broadcast localism will be held in Monterey, California. This hearing will be open to the public, and AIVF members in Northern California are encouraged to attend. The FCC has not yet set an agenda; we will send an alert to our Northern California members when details are available. Last month's hearing in San Antonio, Texas brought out a very diverse and outspoken audience, and provoked a number of substantive news articles on the issues at hand.

CPB Launches America at a Crossroads: Resquest for Proposal

On Friday, February 27, 2004, the Corporation For Public Broadcasting (CPB) will launch America at a Crossroads, a new public education initiative to underwrite the production of films to inform the national dialogue about post-9/11 America. Crossroads aims to expand our civic conversation and advance our national debate through incisive, innovative television programs on some of the most pressing issues of our time: the nature and direction of international terrorism, and the war against it, the use of American power against states that harbor or "sponsor" terrorists, preemptive military action, unilateralism, regime change, conflicts between homeland security and civil liberties, and other still-emerging questions resulting from the
9/11 attacks.

The CPB announcement on February 27 will be published on CPBšs web site (http://www.cpb.org) and will be accompanied by the publication of a Request for Proposal (RFP) which will state the initiativešs objectives, criteria, guidelines, etc. for prospective Crossroads grant applicants.

Pre-proposal Conferences will be convened by CPB/Crossroads staff in four cities in order to provide additional information to producers and other potential applicants regarding the initiativešs priorities and guidelines. For your advance planning purposes, the Pre-Proposal Conferences will be convened during the afternoon on the dates given below. Additional information on the conference schedule will be provided in the upcoming RFP, mentioned above. Please set aside time on your calendar to attend.

The dates for the pre-proposal conferences will be on the RFP itself and were on the pre-release e-mail. They are:

-Washington DC, Friday, March 5

-New York City, Wednesday, March 10

-San Francisco, Monday, March 29

-Los Angeles, Wednesday, March 31

All events will be roughly from 3PM-7PM
