Birmingham Film Commission update

At a Birmingham City committee meeting on May 22, 2003, Councilman Bert Miller brought up a scheduled topic of the Birmingham Film Commission. The old commission has been disbanded as being unworkable and within a few weeks a new design will be organized and presented. There was input from several civic leaders on this subject.

SIDEWALK MOON FILMS ANNOUNCES ITS ALABAMA PREMIERE OF THE INDEPENDENT FILM "UNDER THE SIDEWALK MOON" AT TUSCALOOSA'S BAMA THEATRE MAY 22nd, 2003

Sidewalk Moon Films announces its Alabama Premiere of the independent film, entitled "Under the Sidewalk Moon" at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on May 22nd, 2003, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. For ticket information, please contact Steve Moon at 205-567-8518 or via email at swmoon1@hotmail.com.

"The movie is quite an accomplishment. I was writer, director, editor, producer, and everything else you can imagine. It was quite challenging working with schedules and scouting locations on top of a full time job", says Steve Moon, the film's producer. "I have written everything from music video treatments to screenplays, and after having been burned in Hollywood when a major film was produced and released based on my work, well I decided to go into indies. I worked with "Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Pierce as I began production of Sidewalk Moon."

The Tuscaloosa premiere is one of many screenings throughout the Southeast, including Franklin, TN; Atlanta, GA; and Chattanooga, TN. Sidewalk Moon Films is currently in pre-production for another feature film being shot in the Birmingham area.

Sidewalk Moon Films is a full scale production company specializing in script supervision, casting and production of documentaries, shorts, and feature films. For more information on Sidewalk Moon Films, please contact Steve Moon at 205-567-8518 or email at swmoon1@hotmail.com.

Film Festivals

Central Standard Film Festival

I am writing to tell you about a new film festival in Minneapolis-St. Paul
that we think will be of interest to the members of your AIVF Regional
Salons.

The Central Standard Film Festival is presented by IFP Minneapolis-St.
Paul--a national non-profit which supports independent filmmakers--and was
founded to support and encourages regional American filmmakers.

We are the first festival to exclusively champion the stories and cinematic
visions coming from the vast interior of our country.  We believe that these
stories and visions are vitally important, and that they reach the screen
too infrequently.  At Central Standard we support the advancement of
filmmaking that reflects the wide breadth of life in all the regions of
America.

The industry¹s current distribution system--and a growing number of major
film festivals--predominantly advance the stories, thematic concerns and
production styles established by the film cultures of New York City and Los
Angeles. We believe filmmakers should be able to live and work in whatever
place inspires and informs their stories and cinematic visions.

There is an audience for regional work, and given the chance, this audience
will support filmmakers to stay and work where they live.  Towards this end,
Central Standard aspires to establish regional film exhibition spaces,
regional film television programs and regional distribution systems so that
more, and different, cinematic visions can reach US audiences.

Central Standard is working towards a nation-wide film industry which
includes a chorus of filmmaking voices, providing authentic insight into
life in the rest of the United States.

Director of Programming Todd Hansen was six years at the Los Angeles
Independent Film Festival Associate Programming under Thomas Harris before
taking on Central Standard.

Any and all questions about us can be answered at our web-site,
www.centralstandardfilmfest.com., where you can also download a submission
form for the festival.

Looking forward to hearing from your members and checking in with new
production in the other 48 states!
