Summary of the Dec. 3 AIVF
meeting
The Tuesday December 3 meeting of AIVF was on the UAB
campus in Room 315 of the Hulsey Fine Arts Center, thanks to Jean Bodon for
arranging the space.
We had a little bit of discussion about the overall work
situation in Los Angeles. The industry is still suffering from post 9-11 slow
down. There is also a good bit of production work going out of
country.
We had some information about the November 9 casting
call for "Big Fish". There was an expected turnout of 2,000
people and instead they got close to 8,000 responses. The casting crew was very
organized and professional in handling the crowd. They were making some smaller
headshots, 5x7, of people at the location. The casting may continue to Dec. 30
with filming planned to start in January 2003. Some people have been called back
for further readings.
We reviewed the short film "Duality" and
examined the use of storyboards in pre-production to plan the blue-screen
and CGI shots. Even though this is a science fiction film there have been
several movies, "Titanic" and "Windtalkers"
that have relied on 3D computer models to create things that don't exist
anymore. Mark Thomas and Dave Macomber did an excellent job and you can
view "Duality" at their web site www.crewoftwo.com .

A holiday film
release
With the numerous Christmas specials on TV and Hanukkah
films ( "8 Crazy Nights") being release, there's an overlooked film that
coincides with the end of Ramadan. The movie "Muhammad, The
Last Prophet" is making it's way to US theaters. Produced by Badr
International, the film was researched by Islamic scholars and production
facilities was RichCrest Animation, formerly Rich Animation, who made
"The Swan Princess" and the Animated Bible Stories series.
Considered to be one of the better portrayals of Islam since "The
Message" with Anthony Quinn, the film has had a
favorable response to the Middle East audiences.
