Summary of AIVF meeting August
6th
The August 6th meeting of the AIVF Birmingham Salon
was held at Magic City Films, Salon Leader Jim Brucke presiding.
We had invited Erik Jambor of The Sidewalk Moving
Picture Festival to tell us a little about what was going on this year, he spoke
to the group (see Ezine No. 13) of what they had
planned. Thanks Erik -ed.
One of the big topics of discussion was about the
"Big Fish" production that was announced in the Friday, August 2nd edition of
the Birmingham News. It pretty much caught everyone by surprise. There was
a question of how much employment (outside of hotel/motel, gasoline and food
service industries) this was going to offer the production talent here. How many
of the extras, local production assistants, location scouts, wardrobe and crew
positions will be employed by the movie.
The Birmingham AIVF is starting work on a local
production directory. Actors will need to have headshots and current contact
numbers. Production crew will need an up to date resume, a photo to also include
would be a good idea. Jim Brucke is gathering the information. -more in a
later Ezine -ed.
We are still looking for a meeting place. It's nice
of Earl Hilliard to loan us his space but we need to find a good central
location. A few options were discussed.
The Ezine had a few problems with mailing to
the Hotmail accounts last week. These problems are being looked in
to (events happened after the meeting, see Ezine No. 12).
The projected improvements planned for the Ezine will help to alleviate the
problems. The Ezine is also expanding and gaining national notice. The Los
Angeles AIVF responded back and said it was a great idea.
An outreach campaign was discuss to try and get
interested people to become involved. We discussed several ways to reach college
students in the area. It would be helpful if we had some students attending
several of the colleges to assist on campus.
We had a good bit of discussion about bringing and
showing our own films we've made at the AIVF meetings, after all we are
FILMMAKERS. This was done a lot a few years ago but slacked off. This will be an
important activity to restart, especially since the Los Angeles AIVF has offered
to host a screening at their location of Birmingham AIVF films. We can develop a
program of our locally made films and work out an exchange screening with
the Los Angeles
Salon -more in a later Ezine -ed
.
Fred Purchis reminded us about the NATPE convention
in January. It will be held in New Orleans this next time.
We had some discussion about copyrights for your
work or your scripts.
We had discussion about other film projects that
may shot here but these will be covered later in a production news
Ezine.
