Ezine of July 6, 2002

From the Ezine Editor,

I hope everyone had a nice Fourth of July. As you may have noticed the Ezine has a new look. It's just part of the changes of your local AIVF. I'll be trying out some new things so if you have any ideas or helpful tips please pass them along. In this issue I'll be trying to include some pictures so let me know if they come across.

Auditions, 'CW3'

In response to my inquiry of who may have attended the audition for 'CW3' last month, the one reply (so far) has been that there was some production people there. They had a camera to record the auditions with and a prepared text to read conveying a reviewer remarks about the film. The production people there also inquired if you were a member of Support Independent Film dot Com or were planning on joining. Support Independent dot Com is based in Nashville

Writer's Workshop

The Writer's Workshop, hosted by the lady in red, turned out very nice. There was a slight problem with the store scheduling a conflicting book signing in the coffee shop so the group moved down stairs. If anyone came to meeting and wasn't redirected to the proper place then apologies are in order for the mistake. The next meeting is planned for the same location, just check both the coffee shop and downstairs.

Changes at Alabama Film Office's web site

In case you haven't visited the Film Office's web site recently (http://www.alabamafilm.org/) there has been a change in the website with a new look. Some of the production directory seems to be a little less than before but that may be because people haven't sent in an update. If you want to be listed you need to send your information in on a regular basis. One of the biggest complaints in years past by out of state production companies was that the majority of contact phone numbers for Alabama talent listed were disconnected or the person had moved away.

Here's a JPEG of the index page

When you visit the site, roll your mouse over the photos above.

Let's see if we can get Brian Kurlander to come to Birmingham and bring us up to date on what's been happening with the film industry in Alabama.

Last of the season

Sidewalk Cinematique, on Thursday June 27th at Workplay, presented 'Best Of The U.S. Festivals'.The following titles were included, 'Gulp', Zen & The Art Of Landscaping', 'Father and Daughter', 'Born Loser', 'Lunch', 'Everybody's Pregnant', 'Quality Of Mercy', 'In God We Trust',  'My Chorus' and 'Stalker Guilt Syndrome'.

The director of the Asbury Shorts, Doug Le Claire was there. All the films were very well done and appeared to be well received by the attending audience. This was the last of the monthly Cinematique showings by Sidewalk until after the Film Festival.

For those of you who happened to have missed this showing (like maybe you're short of cash until your payday on Friday), don't despair, some of these shorts are available for viewing at Atom Films.

'Father and Daughter' was listed but the click through didn't link up.
