"Saxophrass" is the
story of Leo "Cutter" Coleman, a fisherman struggling
through an ugly divorce as he tries to balance his new life. Between
fishing and playing music, Cutter also finds refuge as a cop
informant, which leads him into making choices about his life.
"Around last October or November
I began the screenplay as therapy for my own situation and decided
to produce it into a film. Many creative liberties were taken as my
life isn't as exciting as Cutter's, the main character. I spent
about 3 months casting and about another month locking down
locations. After a thorough script breakdown, I began to film,
The labor of love came as I worked
with everyone's schedules. My main character was typically available
one night a week, and just about ALL of his scenes were shot with
just him on the set and the other actors posted in. I can't tell you
how many times he acted with a mark, or a piece of chalk, or some
improvised stand in, which made it very interesting. I wonder how
different Cutter's character would have been had he actually
interacted with the other talented actors on the set." -Steve
