The Metropolitan Development Board
announced today that it has chosen Mark Stricklin to be the
Executive Director of the Birmingham-Jefferson Film Office. Mr.
Stricklin attended Auburn University and graduated from St.Bernard
College. He served as Director of the Alabama Film Office from
1987-1993. He was also Director at the Wilmington NC Regional Film
Commission from 1994-1999. He was then Executive Director at the
Oregon Film & Video Office then in 2002 help set up and head the
Buffalo Niagara Film Commission.
Stricklin plans to come to Birmingham
as the troubled Buffalo Niagara Film Commission suffers funding
cuts. The Film Commission would have closed earlier this year had
not an anonymous cash donation kept the one-person office open to
the end of August. Mr. Stricklin is expected to appear this weekend
at the Sidewalk Film Festival, an organization that has a
controlling interest in the Birmingham-Jefferson Film Office.
